James Johnson Named SLIAC Player of the Week

Lake Forest College men's golfer James Johnson was named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday for his performance in the IWU Invite over the weekend.

Johnson was one of three Foresters to tie for 28th place out of 212 players at the two-day event. After finishing with a 78 in Friday's opening round, he carded a one-over 73 on Saturday to move up 64 places on the leaderboard. Saturday's performance included four birdies and matched the Foresters' best individual round so far in 2022-23.

Lake Forest tied for sixth place at the tournament, which featured seven teams ranked among the top 42 in the nation. The Foresters' final score of 607 is the fourth-lowest 36-hole total in program history and Saturday's round of 302 ranks tied-for-eighth in team annals.

Johnson's current 18-hole scoring average of 77.53 is the best of any Forester who has been with the team all year and his career mark of 78.14 ranks third in school history.

SLIAC Players of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors.
