Foresters Win Fighting Scot Spring Invite in Record-Setting Fashion

The Lake Forest College men's golf team fired back-to-back rounds of 300 to finish first out of 11 schools at Monmouth College's Fighting Scot Spring Invite over the weekend.

The 300 matched the fourth-lowest round in program history and the two-day score of 600 is a team record. The previous mark of 602 was set during the first two rounds of the 2018 Midwest Conference Championship Tournament.

Forester senior Jack Dwyer had eight birdies over the weekend, including six during Saturday's round of 73. He carded a 74 on Sunday to tie for third place in the 70-player field and match the eighth-lowest 36-hole total in team history.

Fellow senior James Johnson finished just one shot behind Dwyer after recording consecutive rounds of 74. He birdied his first and last holes of the weekend and added two more in between. He and Dwyer have each posted a two-day score of 147 and a pair of 148s over the last four years.

Making his Forester debut, sophomore transfer Max Golding was just one shot behind Johnson and tied-for-sixth overall. He had a 76 in the opening round and was three strokes better on Sunday. Junior Ryan Higgins was tied-for-21st after rounds of 77 and 79 while sophomore Chris Petri was tied-for-23rd at 157.

Lake Forest senior Carlos Garcia Bodini competed as an individual and his 76 on Sunday gave him a 45th-place finish and two-day score of 162.

Luther College was the runner-up at 608, eight shots behind the Foresters, and Black Hawk College placed third at 612.

The next tournament on Lake Forest's schedule is the IWU Invite next Friday and Saturday. The event will be hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
