Lake Forest Places Eighth at Carthage Fall Classic

The Forester men's golf team posted its best two rounds of the young season over the weekend and placed eighth at the 20-team Carthage Fall Classic.

Junior Ryan Higgins carded a career-best 73 in Saturday's second round and tied for 28th place at the 119-player event with a two-day score of 149. Higgins had 14 pars, including nine in a row, on Friday and a dozen to go with two birdies on Saturday. Only five players in the field had more than his 26 pars on the weekend.

Seniors Jack Dwyer and Connor Lindley were next on the team and tied-for-40th overall at 152. Lindley recorded a team-high eight birdies and Dwyer five in the two rounds combined. Fellow senior James Johnson was tied-for-56th at 156 while sophomore Luke Duffer's 157 put him in a tie for 58th place.

Illinois Wesleyan University won the event with a 36-hole score of 554, which was 13 strokes better than runner-up Aurora University. The Foresters turned in rounds of 305 and 309 to place eighth, one shot better than Elmhurst University.

Lake Forest will play in another two-day event next weekend. The WLC (Wisconsin Lutheran College) Fall Invitational will be played at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin, on Saturday and Sunday.
