Foresters 5th, Seven Shots out of 2nd after Day 1 of SLIAC Championships

The Lake Forest College men's golf team is in fifth place after the first two rounds of the 54-hole St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

Players completed 36 holes on Monday and will play the final round of the event on Tuesday.

Junior James Johnson leads the Foresters and is tied-for-fifth out of 54 players overall after posting a 75 in the first round and a 76 in the second. His 24 pars so far are tied for the tournament's third-highest total.

Fellow junior Connor Lindley is next on the team and 14th at the event with a 36-hole score of 156. He earned pars on each of the course's four par-3 holes in both of Monday's rounds and his 76 in round two was his best score as a Forester since September of 2019.

Jack Dwyer, another Lake Forest junior, carded a 76 in the opening round but an 81 in round two has him tied-for-15th overall. Freshman Luke Duffer is at 162 and sophomore Ryan Higgins 167 going into day two. Duffer's opening round 80 and Higgins' 79 in round two contributed to the Foresters' total score.

Webster University leads the team standings with a 36-hole score of 607. The next four teams are separated by just seven strokes with the fifth-place Foresters at 632 and well within reach of Fontbonne University (621), Knox College (619), and Illinois College (616).

Tuesday's play on the 6,550-yard par-72 course at Polo Fields Golf and Country Club in Louisville, Kentucky, is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
