Seniors Finish Eighth at Carthage Spring Invitational

The Foresters' five seniors finished with a 307 Tuesday to place eighth at the Carthage College Spring Invitational.

Jordan Mandel and Ricky Schmidt led the group with a six-over 76 on the 6,530-yard course at Kenosha Country Club in Somers, Wisconsin. Schmidt carded 14 pars during his round while Mandel had 11 to go with a birdie on the 349-yard, par-4 seventh hole. They tied for 24th place in the 75-player field.

Elijah Collins also birdied hole number seven and finished just one stroke behind Schmidt and Mandel and tied-for-33rd overall with a 77. After starting with five consecutive bogeys, Parker Hill parred 11 of his last 13 holes to finish with a 78 and Cam McGuire had one of just three birdies on the day on 14, a 218-yard, par-3.

Carthage won the event with a 6-over 286, four shots better than runner-up Concordia University Wisconsin. The Foresters placed eighth, two strokes behind Carroll University and three ahead of North Park University.

Lake Forest's final tournament before the Midwest Conference Championships next weekend is this Saturday's Forester Invitational, which will be played at White Deer Run Golf Club in nearby Vernon Hills. The event will begin at 10:30 a.m.
