Foresters Post Season-Best Score at IWU Invitational

Junior Jacob Krugman and senior Ricky Schmidt led the way as Lake Forest matched the fifth-lowest 36-hole score in program history at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational over the weekend.

Krugman tied for 17th in the 120-player field with a 75 on Friday and a season-best-tying 73 on Saturday. Only five players had more than his six birdies at the event and he completed a two-day event in fewer than 150 strokes for the sixth time in his career.

Schmidt finished in a tie for 28th place after posting a 74 in the first round and a 76 in the second. He played the course's four par-3s in even par on the weekend.

Senior Jordan Mandel's 82 on Friday and 80 on Saturday were among the team's top four scores both days while senior Elijah Collins and junior Austin Aksoy split that honor with matching 77s, Collins in round one and Aksoy in round two. Aksoy was two shots under par on the tournament's par-3s while senior Cam McGuire, who competed as an individual, was 1-under on the par-5s and matched Collins with a 160 for the weekend.

With a two-day score of 614, the Foresters were a stroke better than at their final event of the fall. Illinois Wesleyan won their own event at 572, nine shots better than runner-up Hope College.

Lake Forest will play in a pair of events next weekend, traveling to Waukesha, Wisconsin, for the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational on Saturday before hosting the annual Forester Invitational at White Deer Run Golf Club in nearby Vernon Hills on Sunday.
