Lake Forest College golfer Jacob Krugman was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead his team to a Midwest Conference Championship last weekend.

Krugman, a sophomore, finished in a tie for third place in the 33-player field to earn All-MWC honors for the second straight season. His final score of 226 was just two shots off the lead and the best three-day total in program history by five strokes. Just one player posted a lower score in the final round and he finished with a tournament-high 39 pars in 54 holes.

The Foresters finished first in the team standings with a three-day score of 918, two strokes better than runner-up Knox College. It was Lake Forest's first MWC title and first conference championship of any kind since 1957. The program, which had been dropped in the early 1970s, is in just its fourth season after returning to varsity status in 2014.

With a team-best 18-hole scoring average of 75.40, Krugman will lead the Foresters into NCAA Division III Championship Tournament play in Greensboro, North Carolina, next week. The four-round event will be played at Grandover Resort and will begin on Tuesday.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. It was the third such honor for Krugman this season and fourth of his career.
