Foresters Take on Tough Competition at Illinois Wesleyan Invitational

Sophomore Austin Aksoy posted a career-best round of 75 and the Lake Forest College men's golf team placed 10th at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.

Aksoy was tied-for-19th out of 100 golfers overall and second for the Foresters behind fellow sophomore Jacob Krugman, who was at even par with a round of 72 on the 6,901-yard course at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois. He finished in a tie for third place in the field, just two strokes off the lead.

Lake Forest junior Elijah Collins matched his career-best round and his 78 ranked tied-for-43rd at the tournament. Junior Ricky Schmidt was next on the team with an 80, one shot better than seniors Davis DeKorte and Durham Ghelfi and freshman Max Rohwedder.

The Foresters' score of 311 was good for 10th place in the 14-team field, which was led by Illinois Wesleyan with a round of 289.

The event was originally scheduled for two days but Friday's opening round was canceled due to the weather.

Lake Forest will play in a pair of events next weekend. Saturday's Wisconsin Lutheran Spring Invitational at Morningstar Golfers Club in Waukesha will begin at 12:30. The annual Forester Invitational is scheduled to be played at Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock, Illinois, with a start time of 10:00 a.m.
