Lake Forest Places Sixth at the 35-Team Midwest Classic

Sophomore Jacob Krugman was second overall with a two-day score of 147 and helped lead the Forester men's golf team to a sixth-place finish out of 35 teams at the Midwest Region Classic over the weekend.

Krugman finished just three strokes off the lead and three over par on the 6,884-yard, par-72 North Course at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Illinois. He was tied-for-first in the 174-player field at -3 on the par-5 holes and tied-for-2nd at +2 on the par-4s. Krugman finished Friday's opening round in 73 shots and shot a 74 on Saturday

Senior Davis DeKorte was next on the team and tied-for-31st overall at 159. His 79 on Saturday was one stroke better than his first round and he was one of five players in the tournament with an eagle on the weekend.

Lake Forest junior Ricky Schmidt carded back-to-back 80s to finish in a tie for 36th place while classmate Cam McGuire was tied-for-45th at 161 after carding a 76 on Friday and an 85 on Saturday.

Edgewood College was the team champion with a two-day score of 620, one shot better than runners-up Wheaton College and Carthage College. Aurora University and Luther College were tied-for-fourth at 626, Lake Forest sixth at 627, and St. Mary's University seventh at 628.

The Foresters will travel to Hartford, Wisconsin, next weekend for the Wisconsin Lutheran College Fall Invitational at Washington County Golf Course. Play on Sunday will begin at 9:30 a.m. and Monday's second round will start at 9:00 a.m.
