Foresters Finish Second at WLC Spring Invitational

Freshman Jacob Krugman was the medalist and was joined by juniors Davis DeKorte and Durham Ghelfi in the top 10 as the Lake Forest College men's golf team was the runner-up at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invitational on Saturday.

Krugman fired an even-par 72 on the 6,875-yard course at Morningstar Golfers Club in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He carded back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes and again on 12 and 13. Krugman added a fifth birdie to his round on the 17th and posted a par on 18 to win by one stroke.

One shot was also all that separated the Foresters from first-place Marian University in the team standings. Lake Forest's score of 304 was the squad's best since finishing the first round of the year in 296 on September 9. Wisconsin Lutheran was third with a round of 307.

DeKorte was tied-for-fifth in the 80-player field with a 75 that included four birdies, including one on the final hole. Ghelfi was next on the team and tied-for-eighth overall a shot behind DeKorte. Ghelfi's season-best round featured three birdies and he played the back nine in even-par 36. Sophomore Elijah Collins also recorded his best score of the year with an 81, which put him in a tie for 30th place.

Lake Forest will play three events next week, beginning with the Carthage College Spring Invite on Tuesday. The team was also play in the 36-hole Illinois College Blueboy Invite on Friday and Saturday before hosting the Forester Spring Invitational in Rockford, Illinois, on Sunday.
