Foresters Finish in the Middle at Midwest Region Fall Classic

Freshman Jacob Krugman shot a 70 on Sunday, tied for the best round of the day, as the Lake Forest College men's golf team placed 16th out of 32 team at the two-day Midwest Region Fall Classic at Eagle Ridge Resort-South in Galena, Illinois.

Krugman was tied-for-78th after needing 82 shots to complete the 6,762-yard, par-72 course on Saturday. His 2-under-par round on Sunday moved him up 63 spots into a tie for 15th place in the 174-player field. It was one of just four below-par rounds at the event and two strokes off the program record. Krugman tied for 12th in the field with 23 pars on the weekend.

Forester junior Durham Ghelfi also carded an 82 on Saturday and finished with a score of 81 on Sunday to tie for 76th place. Classmate Davis DeKorte had an 82 and an 83 and was tied-for-96th. Sophomore Parker Hill turned in the team's only other round in the 70s with a 76 on Saturday and tied for 100th on the weekend with a score of 166. Sophomore Ricky Schmidt's 83 and 87 put him in a tie for 119th.

Lake Forest was in 16th place after the opening round with a score 322 and remained there after posting a 321 on Sunday. The Foresters finished near the middle of a group of 13 teams separated by just 28 shots. Luther Colleg won the event with a two-day score of 609, two strokes better than Augustana College, Elmhurst College, and Carthage College, who tied for second.

Lake Forest will play in a pair of events next weekend. On Saturday the team will take on Wisconsin Lutheran College in a match-play format on Saturday at Bull Valley Golf Club in Woodstock, Illinois. Both teams will then compete in the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin on Sunday and Monday. The opening round will begin at 10:00 a.m. and round two is slated for 7:30 Monday morning.
