Lake Forest Places 10th at Carthage College Spring Invitational

Freshman Ricky Schmidt and sophomore Davis DeKorte shot in the 70s as the Forester men's golf team placed 10th at the Carthage College Spring Invitational on Tuesday.

DeKorte led Lake Forest for the second straight event with a score of 77 on the 6,530-yard, par-70 Kenosha Country Club course. His score was also tied-for-18th in the 80-golfer field.

Schmidt finished his round in 79 strokes, tying him for 29th place overall. He and DeKorte tied sophomore Durham Ghelfi with their seventh round in the 70s this year.

Freshmen Jordan Mandel and Carter Ostrander rounded out the Foresters' scorers on Tuesday with scores of 82 and 84, respectively. Sophomore Jacob Soyka carded a 92.

Carthage won the team competition with a score of 298, five shots ahead of runner-up Elmhurst College. Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wheaton College tied for third at 305. Lake Forest's 322 was two shots ahead of Aurora University for 10th place in the 14-team field.

The Foresters will compete in the two-day St. Norbert College Invitational this weekend. Play at Royal St. Patrick's Golf Links in Wrightstown, Wisconsin, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
