Foresters Climb the Standings, Finish Fifth at WLC Fall Invitational

The Lake Forest College men's golf team improved 13 strokes from Sunday to Monday and climbed from eight place to fifth at the Wisconsin Lutheran College Fall Invitational. Sophomores Durham Ghelfi and Davis DeKorte combined for six birdies and an eagle on day two and posted two of the 12 best rounds in the 84-player field.

Ghelfi followed up his 76 on Sunday with a 74 on Monday to place ninth overall and just six shots behind the individual champion. He played the four par-5 holes in 3-under on day two with birdies on the third and 13th holes and an eagle on the 555-yard 17th. He had 14 pars on Sunday, including 10 in a row to finish the round.

DeKorte tied for the eighth-best round on Monday and his two-day score of 154 was tied-for-20th in the field. His round of 75 on day two featured three birdies, including one on the 18th hole to finish off the best round of his collegiate career.

Freshman Ricky Schmidt posted a 40 on the front nine and a 38 on the back in both of his rounds for a two-day score of 156. He tied for 25th place. Classmate Parker Hill improved eight shots from the first round to the second, a 77, to finish in a tied for 43rd place. Sophomore Benjamin Crosby's 84 on Sunday counted toward the team score and he improved two shots on Monday.

Carthage College won the event with a two-day score of 594, 14 shots better than runner-up Wisconsin Lutheran. The Red Men posted a score of 300 on Monday, two shots ahead of Edgewood College and four better than the Foresters, whose 304 was the team's best round since the reinstatement of the program in 2014. Lake Forest finished 13th at the same event last year with a score of 664, 43 shots behind this year's performance.

The Foresters will compete again on Friday and Saturday at the Midwest Region Fall Classic at the Golf Courses at Lawsonia in Green Lake, Wisconsin.
