Foresters Finish 10th at Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament

The Lake Forest College men's golf team began the year by placing 10th out of 19 teams at Carthage College's Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament on Saturday. Sophomore Durham Ghelfi tied for third place out of 103 competitors with a two-day score of 146.

Ghelfi's career-best round of 72 on Saturday was just one shot over par and he carded a 74 on Sunday. He had two birdies on Saturday and four on Sunday. His previous low round as a collegiate player was 78 last October.

Freshman Parker Hill's 73 on Sunday was five shots better than his Saturday score and he tied for 25th in the standings. He started Sunday with a birdie and recorded 14 pars in his round.

Sophomore Davis DeKorte and freshman Ricky Schmidt were tied for 52nd place with a two-day score of 156. Schmidt's 75 on Saturday was three shots better than DeKorte but his 81 on Sunday was three shots worse. After an 87 on Saturday, freshman Elijah Collins matched Schmidt's 81 on Sunday.

Carthage won the event with a two-day team score of 584. The Foresters' 609 was 55 strokes better than their 13th-place score from last year's event.

Lake Forest will compete again next Sunday and Monday at the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wisconsin.
