Lake Forest Hosts First Golf Tournament in More than Four Decades

The Forester Spring Invite was played at White Deer Run Golf Club in Vernon Hills, Illinois, on Sunday and the hosts' red team placed eighth while the black team was 10th. Senior Davis Grannis was one of two Foresters with three birdies on the day.

Grannis and the rest of Team Black started on the back nine and needed just a pair of shots on each of his first two par-3s. He also carded a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. Grannis finished with Team Black's second-best score at 91, two shots behind freshman Matthew Weidner. Three other freshmen, Matthew Pochowitz, Jacob Soyka, and Ben Crosby posted scores of 92, 95, and 98, respectively.

Freshman Durham Ghelfi had the Foresters' best score of the tournament at 81. He had two birdies while shooting a 39 on the back nine and added a third hole under par on the front. Fellow freshman Davis DeKorte was next at 83, thanks to pars on seven of his last nine holes. Senior Luke Swardenski had an 86 on his round while freshmen Jeremy Edelson and Christopher Rockers were two strokes back at 88.

Concordia University Wisconsin won the 10-team competition with a score of 302, 11 shots better than runner-up Carthage College.

Lake Forest will be back in action twice next weekend, traveling to Appleton, Wisconsin, on Saturday for the Viking Invite before competing in the Midwest Conference Preview Meet in Rockford, Illinois, on Sunday.
