In addition, he worked with the men's basketball team and interned with the Director of Basketball Operations, assisting in overall operations and running camps.

As a student-athlete at UW-Parkside, Fitzgerald was selected to the Great Lakes Valley Conference All-Academic Team each season and was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court as a senior. Fitzgerald graduated in December of 2010 with a degree in sport management and a minor in economics while obtaining a certificate in coaching.
