Foresters Pull Away Late, Defeat Cornell

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team hosted and defeated Cornell College 68-61 on Saturday.

The Foresters led 37-32 at halftime after shooting 64 percent from the field in the game's first 20 minutes.

The home team never trailed in the second half but Cornell was able to tie the score on six different occasions, the last at 56 with 5:28 to play. Sophomore guard Alex Knight knocked down a three-pointer on Lake Forest's next possession and accounted for half of the team's final 12 points. Four others came on free throws by sophomore guard Elijah Bull in the last minute to help secure the victory.

Senior forward Frank Siegien shot 9-for-14 from the field and led Lake Forest with a season-high 20 points. Senior wing Johnny Roeser was next with 16 points and he added a game-high 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. Junior guard Rocco Ronzio connected four times from beyond the arc and accounted for all 14 of the Foresters' points off the bench. Ronzio also had a pair of steals while Bull led all players in the contest with eight assists.

Lake Forest finished the day shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 8-for-18 (44.4%) on three-pointers. The home team also limited Cornell to 41.8 percent shooting and out-rebounded the visitors 28-21.

The victory raised the Foresters' overall record this season to 2-6 and Midwest Conference mark to 1-2. Cornell fell to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday for a its final game of the fall semester. The non-conference match-up is scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
