Foresters Close Out Fall Semester with Loss to Whitewater

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team was defeated 91-58 by visiting University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Wednesday night.

The game's first 15 minutes featured four ties and six lead changes but the Warhawks closed out the opening period on a 22-7 run and led 49-38 at halftime.

Junior wing Johnny Roeser led all players with 13 points and eight rebounds in the first half and added one more rebound before sitting out the final 13:27 of the contest.

Whitetwater outscored the home team 18-4 over the first five-plus minutes of the second half and led by at least 20 the rest of the way.

Senior guard Sean Espinosa was the only other Forester to score in double figures. His 10 points on Wednesday raised his career total to 1,385, moving him past Ken Kelly (1981-85) and into sixth place in program history.

Sophomore guard Rocco Ronzio was next on the team with nine points and freshman guard Alex Knight and sophomore forward Val Oplchenski added eight apiece.

Lake Forest shot nearly 54 percent from the floor in the first half but fell to 41.8 percent for the game. Whitewater was at 58.1 percent overall, 10-for-22 (45.4%) on three-pointers, and 9-for-9 from the foul line. The Warhawks also had a 33-26 edge in rebounds and committed just six turnovers while forcing 11.

The Foresters are now 3-8 overall this season while Whitewater improved to 6-2.

Lake Forest's next game is the team's final non-conference contest of the season at Elmhurst College on Wednesday, December 29.
