Lake Forest Pulls Away Late at Lawrence

Junior guard Sam Husting knocked down five three-pointers to help the Foresters post an 80-70 victory at Lawrence University Tuesday night.

It was the seventh time this season Husting connected at least five times from beyond the arc and his 70 three-pointers on the year are the fifth-highest total in program history. He finished with 15 points and was one of five Foresters in double figures. Sophomore guard Sean Espinosa led the squad with 17 points and seven assists, senior guard Jordan Moran added 14 points, and junior guard Aram Arslanian and freshman guard Tashon Brown each scored 13. Moran and Brown shared team-high honors with nine rebounds apiece and Moran accounted for two of the team's three steals.

Lake Forest started the day leading the Midwest Conference in field goal percentage at .502 and connected on 56.1 percent of their shots at Lawrence. They also limited the Vikings to just 40.3 percent shooting and out-rebounded the home team 34-28.

The score was tied six times in the first half, the last at 25 with four minutes to play. The Foresters then closed out the period on a 12-2 run and took a 37-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Lawrence battled back in the second half and eventually tied the game at 61 on a pair of free throws with 7:38 remaining. Arslanian and senior forward Danny Sotos scored four points apiece and Moran added three while the Vikings were blanked until the 2:50 mark. Espinosa shot 6-for-6 from the foul line and added an assist in the final few minutes to help secure the victory.

Lake Forest is now 15-7 overall and 11-4 in Midwest Conference play this season while Lawrence fell to 10-12 overall and 7-8 n the league.

The Foresters will host Illinois College Saturday afternoon at 3:00. It will be Senior Day for Lake Forest and Moran, Sotos, and forward Chad Bauchan will be honored on the court before tip-off.
