Lake Forest Drops Season Finale at Carroll

The Forester men's basketball team was defeated 75-61 at Carroll University on Saturday in the final game of the season for's the visitors. Sophomore forward Jim Schick and freshman guard Danny Nikitas combined to score more than half of Lake Forest's points on the afternoon.

Nikitas led the Foresters with 17 points and Schick finished with 14 points and a team-high five rebounds. Sophomore guard Andrew Toth was next on the team with nine points and senior forward Brian Madson added eight in his final collegiate game.

Lake Forest shot just 42.2 percent from the floor while allowing the Pioneers to connect on 57.8 percent of their field goal attempts. Carroll also had a 27-23 edge in rebounds.

The lead changed hands six times in the game's first seven minutes. Carroll then used an 11-0 run to pull ahead for good and later added an 11-2 spurt to extend the lead to 15 points. Back-to-back baskets by the Foresters made the score 41-30 at halftime.

Twelve consecutive second half points by the Foresters made the score 56-53 with 6:28 remaining but the visitors would get no closer. The Pioneers shot 9-for-9 from the foul line while outscoring Lake Forest 13-3 in the final 3:45 of the contest.

The Foresters finished the season 10-12 overall and 9-9 in Midwest Conference play, good for fifth place in the 11-team league standings. Carroll ended the year 9-14 overall and 6-12 in the league.

In addition to Madson, the team will graduate forward Tyrone Staggers and guard Kenté Mixon in May.
