Foresters Fall on the Road at Ripon

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team was defeated 62-49 at Ripon College Wednesday night. Four Foresters scored in double figures, led by junior guard Jordan Gipson with 12 points.

Gipson was followed by senior guard Jeff Beck, senior forward Chris Madson, and sophomore forward Brian Madson, who all finished with 10 points. Brian Madson led the visitors with nine rebounds and Beck had three assists and four steals.

Lake Forest shot just 31 percent from the field and made only three of 21 attemtps from three-point range. The Red Hawks connected on nearly 44 percent of their shots from the floor but on just four of 17 three-pointers. Ripon out-rebounded the visitors 41-34 but committed 13 of the game's 24 turnovers.

Neither team scored during the game's first three minutes and the Foresters' first points with 14:50 left in the first half made the score 6-2. The score was tied five times in the period, the last on a pair of free throws by Gipson with three seconds on the clock, leaving the teams knotted at 24 at the break.

The score was tied again at 28 before the home team rattled off eight straight points to take the lead for good. The margin grew to as many as 14 points with three-and-a-half minutes remaining in the contest and the Red Hawks made all four of their free throws in the final minute to preserve the victory.

The Foresters fell to 7-14 overall this season and 5-11 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon is now 12-9 overall and 10-6 in the league.

Lake Forest's next game will be next Tuesday night at 7:00 when the Foresters host Lawrence University. Beck, Chris Madson, and guard Brad Johnstin will be honored on Senior Night before their final career home game.
