Lake Forest Defeated by the Hosts at Trinity Classic

The Forester men's basketball team fell 68-55 at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday on day one of the Trinity Classic. Jeff Beck led the visitors with 22 points in the contest.

Beck shot 4-for-8 from three-point range and added four rebounds and two assists. Sophomore forward Brian Madson was next on the team with eight points. Freshman guard Austin Terry had seven points, four rebounds, and a team-high four assists. Senior forward Chris Madson led Lake Forest with six rebounds and added six points.

Trinity shot 49 percent from the floor while the Foresters made just 39 percent of their field goal attempts. Lake Forest outscored the Tigers 24-9 from three-point range but the home team had a 19-7 advantage on made free throws. The visitors had a slight 30-29 edge in rebounds but committed 14 turnovers while forcing just 10.

A layup by Terry with 13:43 to play in the first half put the Foresters ahead 8-6 but that turned out to be their only lead of the game. Trinity responded with a 10-2 run and led by as many as six points in the period, including a 28-22 advantage as the buzzer sounded.

The home team opened the second half with eight straight points to extend the margin to 14 points. The Foresters battled back and pulled to within four (48-44) with 9:13 on the clock but would get no closer.

Lake Forest fell to 2-7 while the Tigers raised their record to 7-3.

The Foresters will take on Southwestern University tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. to close out play at the Trinity Classic.
