Foresters Fall at Beloit to Close out Fall Semester

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team was defeated 68-52 at Beloit College Tuesday night. Forester freshman guard Mason Zuniga made all three of his field goal attempts and scored a season-high seven points off the bench.

Zuniga added three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 14 minutes of play.

Senior forward Chris Madson and guard Jeff Beck led Lake Forest with 13 points apiece and both players pulled down five rebounds.  Beck also had three assists and a steal. Sophomore forward Brian Madson was next on the team with a dozen points and he led the squad with six boards.

The Foresters shot just 37.3 percent from the field to the Buccaneers' 43.9. Beloit also had a 39-28 edge in rebounds and committed 11 turnovers, four fewer than Lake Forest.

Chris Madson started the game with a traditional three-point play but Beloit rattled off the next 17 points. The Foresters pulled back to within eight points (29-21) by halftime.

Another basket by Chris Madson trimmed to start the second half trimmed the deficit to six and the visitors made it a six-point game three more times but got no closer. A 12-4 run by the Buccaneers extended their lead to 14 points (52-38) with 8:25 remaining and it reached 16 points with three-and-a-half minutes left. Each team scored just four points the rest of the way.

Lake Forest fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in Midwest Conference play while Beloit raised its overall record to 5-3 and league mark to 4-1.

The Foresters' next two games will be played in San Antonio, Texas, at the Trinity University Classic. Lake Forest will take on the hosts on Saturday, December 29, at 4:00 p.m. and will face Southwestern University at 2:00 the following afternoon.
