Foresters Unable to Hold Lead at St. Norbert

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team dropped a 78-67 decision at St. Norbert College Tuesday night. Senior guard Jeff Beck led the visitors with 17 point and seven assists in the contest.

Beck shot 7-for-12 from the field, made two of four attempts from three-point range, and added four rebounds. Sophomore forward Brian Madson was next on the team with 15 points, including nine on three-pointers, and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Senior forward Chris Madson also reached double figures with 12 points and he chipped in with a pair of steals.

Lake Forest shot 49 percent and St. Norbert 47 percent from the floor on the night. Both teams connected nine times from beyond the arc. The Green Knights finished with a 34-26 edge in rebounds and shot 21-for-26 from the free throw line while the visitors made just four of six foul shots. 

The home team led by as many as seven point in the first half before a 12-0 run by the Foresters gave the the lead. Lake Forest was still ahead 32-29 at halftime.

A 9-2 Forester run to open the second half extended the margin to 10 points with 16:48 remaining. After a timeout, the Knights connected on three-pointers on each of their next three possessions and quickly cut the deficit to two. St. Norbert finally regained the advantage on another three-pointer with 10:48 to play and took the lead for good on yet another long-range shot with 8:24 on the clock. The home team outscored Lake Forest 18-9 during the final six minutes to secure the victory.

The loss drops the Foresters' overall record to 1-5 and their Midwest Conference mark to 1-3. St. Norbert is now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the league. 

Lake Forest will host a non-conference game against the University of Chicago Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
