Lake Forest Falls at Grinnell

The Forester men's basketball team was defeated 87-76 at Grinnell College on Saturday despite junior post player Travis Clark's game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.

It was Clark's second straight double-double and his seventh of the season. He shot 9-for-11 from the field and made all six of his free throws in the contest.

Sophomore guard Jeff Beck was next on the squad with a career-high 20 points. Junior forwards Drew Grennell and Dayton Young each shot 6-for-9 from the field and finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Lake Forest shot 55.9 percent from the field but missed all six of its attempts from three-point range and made just 10-of-18 free throws. The Foresters did limit Grinnell, which entered the game averaging more than 112 points and 60 three-pointers attempted per game, to just 87 points and season-lows for three-pointers made (nine) and attempted (31). Lake Forest had a 42-38 edge in rebounds but committed 22 turnovers to the Pioneers' 12.

The Foresters led for most of the first half but by no more than six points. A pair of Grinnell free throws with 30 seconds left in the half and a three-pointer at the buzzer tied the game at 33.

Lake Forest scored the first basket of the second half but the Pioneers responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead for good. The margin grew to 15 points with three minutes to play and the Foresters were unable to get any closer than 10 the rest of the way.

The loss drops the Foresters' overall record to 8-9 and Midwest Conference mark to 6-6. The Pioneers are now 11-6 overall and 6-6 in the league.

Lake Forest's next game will be at Monmouth College Tuesday night at 7:30. A live video webcast of the contest will be available at www.pennatlantic.com.
