The Lake Forest College men's basketball team was defeated 62-45
at home by Beloit College on Saturday (January 23), a night after
registering an important 76-70 victory over Ripon College. The
Foresters fell to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in Midwest Conference play
while the Buccaneers raised their overall record to 5-11 and league
mark to 3-6.
Lake Forest sophomore post player Travis Clark (Evanston,
Ill./Evanston) led all players in the game with 20 points and 11
rebounds. He shot 10-for-12 from the field and also blocked a pair
of shots in his eighth double-double in the last 10 games and ninth
this season. It was also his third consecutive game with at least
20 points and 10 boards.
Freshman Jeff Beck (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) was next on the
squad with 11 points and senior guard Victor Campbell (Milwaukee,
Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led the Foresters with four assists.
Senior forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) pulled
down nine rebounds, dished out three assists, and added a pair of
steals.
The Foresters shot a season-low 30.4 percent from the field and
made just two of 20 three-pointers and half of their 18 shots from
the foul line. Lake Forest out-rebounded the Buccaneers 48-29 but
committed 14 turnovers while forcing just six.
Beloit scored the game's first four points and never relinquished
the lead. The margin grew to as many as 11 points (17-6) early in
the game but was trimmed to three with 4:42 to play in the opening
period. An 8-1 Buccaneer run put the visitors ahead by 10 and they
led 34-26 at halftime.
A pair of baskets by Clark to open the second half cut the deficit
in half but the Foresters would get no closer. Beloit shot 8-for-10
late in the contest to pull away.
The Foresters' next game will be played at Illinois College College
at 7:30 Wednesday night(January 27). A live video webcast of the
