Chris Roberts joined the Forester handball coaching staff in 2016.

Lake Forest has placed among the top four in the combined team standings at each of the last five United States Handball Association National Collegiate Championships and the men captured a national title in 2018. Leo Canales was the Men's Open Singles champion in 2018 and was joined by Ricardo Palma as All-Americans after their runner-up finish in doubles. Three players have earned All-American status during Roberts' time on staff.

Roberts graduated from Lake Forest College in 1983 after a four-year collegiate handball career that led to his Forester Athletic Hall of Fame induction in 2018. He won back-to-back Open Doubles titles at the United States Handball Association National Collegiate Championships with Fran Harvey in 1980 and 1981 before claiming two more national titles with Steve Kiser as his partner in 1982 and 1983. In addition, Roberts reached the Open Singles semifinals at the national championships his junior year before claiming the championship as a senior. He was also named the team's Most Valuable Player in 1983.

Roberts received his bachelor's degree in economics and finance and later earned a master's degreen in finance from Indiana University. He is currently a financial systems analyst and consolidation system administrator at Jones Lang LaSalle, IP, Inc. in Chicago.
