Three Lake Forest players won divisional titles and several others also found success over the weekend at the United States Handball Association National Collegiate Championships at the University of Texas.
Junior Anthony Sullivan was the Foresters' top player on the men's side. After dropping two of his first three matches at the event, he rattled off three consecutive victories to come out on top in the Open Singles 9-16 bracket. Two of his four wins at the tournament were in tiebreakers.
Fellow junior Devin Peters is next on the ladder for the Lake Forest men and he came up with four straight victories to win the A1 Singles Division. He also needed a tiebreaker to advance past the semifinals and another to win the final.
The other Forester champion at the event was senior Lexi Vargas, who matched Peters' four-match winning streak to get through the Women's B2 Singles field.
The team's longest winning streak at the tournament was turned in by senior Monica Redfern, who prevailed in all three of her preliminary matches and the first two rounds of the Women's A2 Division. Each of her last three triumphs came in tiebreaker fashion.
In addition to Sullivan and Peters, two other Forester men were also in action during Sunday's finals. Senior Chandler Straw was the runner-up in the A2 Singles Division while freshman John Lohnes was second in the C2 bracket.
Freshman Collin Peters played his way into the Men's A1 Singles Division while senior Brandon Sanchez posted a pair of wins to get into the B2 bracket. Sophomores Brendan Coggins and majesty Umoye were in the C2 Division.
On the women's side senior Riley Frisbie earned a spot in the Open Division while classmate Quinn Jagodzinski competed in the A1 bracket. They were each 1-1 in preliminary matches to earn their overall seed.
Senior Annabeth Gibbons played in the A2 Division and freshman Sarah Moskow was a B2 semifinalist.
In doubles action Sullivan and Devin Peters reached the Men's Open semifinals while Redfern and Gibbons advanced to the same round in the Women's A Division.
