Foresters Compete at State Singles Tournament

Senior Monica was the champion in the Women's B Division, highlighting Lake Forest's performance at the Illinois Handball Association Men's and Women's Singles Championships over the weekend.

Redfern went 3-0 and outscored her three opponents by a combined score of 126-46.

The Foresters' four players competing in the men's and women's open divisions each posted a victory over the weekend. Junior Anthony Sullivan prevailed 21-16, 21-10 in the men's round of 16 while senior Quinn Jagodzinski won 21-11, 21-8 in the same round on the women's side. Senior Riley Frisbie reached the women's open consolation final with a narrow 21-15, 21-17 win and junior Devin Peters came out on top 21-14, 21-15 in the men's open consolation quarterfinals.

Freshman Collin Peters and senior Chandler Straw combined for five wins in the men's A bracket. Peters' 21-7, 15-21, 11-5 triumph sent him to the semifinals, where he added a 21-5, 21-15 victory over the division's top seed. He was edged out 21-19, 21-17 by Lake Forest alumnus Max Roberts in the final. Roberts also eliminated Straw, who also won in a tiebreaker (21-14, 7-21, 11-6) in the quarterfinal round before falling to Roberts.

Senior Brandon Sanchez was the most successful of four players on the team in the men's C/novice division, winning twice to reach the bracket's semifinal round. Sophomore Majesty Umoye recorded a victory in the consolation quarterfinals in his first tournament appearance as a Forester.

All six players in the women's B division consolation bracket were from Lake Forest and senior Annabeth Gibbons defeated freshman Sarah Moskow 21-5, 21-3 in the final.

The event was played at the Glass Court Swim and Fitness Club in Lombard.

Lake Forest will host a Women's Invitational Singles event next Saturday in the Sports and Recreation Center.
