Lake Forest Captures Several Titles at Circle City

The Forester handball team came home from this weekend's 44th Annual Ben Delaney Memorial Handball Tourney in Indianapolis with a sweep of the Open Doubles titles and a championship in Women's Open Singles.

Junior Riley Frisbie contributed to two of the titles, defeating Lake Forest senior Quin Jagodzinski 21-12, 21-11 in the championship match in singles and teaming up with Jagodzinski in doubles, where they outscored juniors Monica Redfern and Annabeth Gibbons 21-9, 21-8 to take the title. Redfern also reached the Open Singles semifinals, were she fell to Jagodzinski.

On the men's side sophomore Anthony Sullivan and junior Devin Peters came from behind for a 13-21, 21-4, 11-2 triumph in the Open Doubles final. Both Foresters also reached the Open Singles semifinals before begin eliminated. Junior Chandler Straw advanced to the quarterfinals before being defeated by the eventual runner-up.

Five of the six competitors in the Women's Open Singles consolation bracket were Foresters and Gibbons edged out junior Marketa Riley 21-14, 21-13 in the final.

Junior Brandon Sanchez came out on top in B Singles, defeating sophomore Jacob Czarapata 21-14, 21-18 in the championship match.

The men's doubles competition also included a C bracket, which Sanchez and Czarapata took with a 21-8, 21-15 victory in the title match.

Lake Forest will now turn its focus to doubles ahead of next weekend's Illinois Handball Association Doubles Tournament at the Glass Court Swim and Fitness Club in Lombard. Play will begin on Friday and continue through Sunday.
