Lake Forest Hosts IHA Joe Ardito Contenders Tournament

Junior Chandler Straw reached the semifinals and five other Foresters also competed in the Illinois Handball Association Joe Ardito Contenders Tournament over the weekend.

Straw prevailed 15-2, 15-1 in the round of 16 before coming out on top of a 13-15, 15-12, 11-6 decision in the quarterfinals. He was then knocked off 21-12, 21-19 in the semifinal round.

Lake Forest juniors Devin Peters, Brandon Sanchez, and Riley Frisbie posted one victory apiece in the main draw. Peters' triumph came in the round of 16 by a score of 15-1, 15-8. He came up against the eventual champion in the quarterfinals and fell 15-7 in both games. Sanchez rolled to a 15-0, 15-0 victory in the round of 32 before being eliminated in the round of 16. Frisbie followed the same path as Sanchez, although she needed a little longer to come out on top 15-11, 11-15, 11-10 in her first match of the event.

After falling in the round of 32 in the main draw, sophomore Jacob Czarapata won a pair of contests in the consolation bracket, posting a 31-17 victory in the round of 16 and a 31-11 triumph in the quarterfinals.

The Foresters's next tournament will be the Milwaukee Classic, which begins on November 30 and concludes on December 2.
