Foresters Face Stiff Competition at Milwaukee Classic

Senior Kyra Vidas reached the Women's Open Singles semifinals at the Milwaukee Classic over the weekend.

Vidas prevailed 21-5, 21-6 in her round of 16 contest and posted a 21-13, 21-18 victory in the quarterfinals before falling to the top seed.

Forester women also found success in several of the lower divisions, with senior Frankie Corrado and sophomore Annabeth Gibbons reaching the semifinals in the B and Novice brackets, respectively. In addition, sophomore Quinn Jagodzinski won the consolation final in the Novice Division.

On the men's side senior Leo Canales and freshman Anthony Sullivan won their opening round matches before falling in the round of 16. Senior Carter Kounovsky triumphed twice to reach the A Singles semifinals while classmate Max Roberts and sophomore Chandler Straw advanced to the quarterfinals. Senior Jon Vargas reached the B Singles quarterfinals and junior Xavier Higa made it all the way to the championship match in the C Singles bracket. Freshman Jacob Czarapata sophomore Brandon Sanchez added opening round victories in the C Division.

Canales and senior Ricardo Palma represented Lake Forest well in the Open Doubles Division, where they won a tiebreaker to reach the quarterfinals.  

 

The Milwaukee Classic was the final event of 2017 for Lake Forest players, whose will be in action next at the Men's and Women's Invitational Doubles event, which the Foresters will host on Saturday, January 13.
