Lake Forest Hosts IHA Contenders

Junior Ricardo Palma was a semifinalist and seven other Foresters participated at the 2016 Illinois Handball Association Contenders Tournament. Lake Forest College is the host of the annual event.

Palma was seeded third in the 23-player field. He won his first match 15-4, 15-4 and prevailed convincingly 15-2, 15-4 in the quarterfinals. Palma was finally edged out by the #2 seed and eventual runner-up 21-19, 21-16 in the semifinals. He had also reached the semifinals at last year's event.

Three other Forester juniors posted opening round victories to reach the round of 16. Carter Kounovsky routed his first opponent 21-1, 21-2 before dropping a 15-11, 15-12 decision in the quarterfinals. Max Roberts won 21-5, 21-3 in his opener but fell 15-7, 12-6 in the next round. Jonathan Vargas posted a 21-9, 21-10 victory before being eliminated by the eventual runner-up 15-5, 15-10.

Lake Forest juniors Carter Ostrander and Steve Lee were knocked out in the first round, as were sophomores David Carrillo Xavier Higa.

The Foresters's next tournament will be the Milwaukee Classic December 2-4.
