Foresters Compete at 2014 Milwaukee Classic

Lake Forest College handball players took part in the 2014 Milwaukee Classic over the weekend. Senior Dan Cordova reached the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual champion.

Cordova defeated former Forester Billy O'Donnell 21-6, 21-9 in the round of 16 before dropping a 21-10, 21-15 decision to eventual champion Luis Moreno. Sophomore Anthony Collado also competed in the Open Singles division and won 21-20, 11-21, 11-9 in the opening round.

Cordova and Collado also reached the semifinals in the Open Doubles bracket before being eliminated by the eventual champions.

Forester junior John Snider posted a pair of victories in the B Singles division before falling in the quarterfinals.

Freshman Max Roberts took home the title in the C Singles division, winning 21-9, 21-10 in the final. He also came out on top of a 21-11, 18-21, 11-10 decision in a grueling quarterfinal match. Classmate Xavier Higa won in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinal round.

On the women's side, Lake Forest senior Amber Craghead defeated junior Christi Valicenti 21-7, 21-16 in the final of the B Singles bracket. Both players won three times to reach the championship match.

Senior Amanda Flaxman also posted three straight victories to take the B Consolation final. She was joined in the bracket's semifinal round by fellow senior Caitlin Shetterley and freshman Kyra Vidas.

Lake Forest players will be in action again January 16-18 at the Illinois Handball Association Men's and Women's Singles Tournament at the Lattof YMCA in Des Plaines.
