Lake Forest Hosts 2013 IHA Women's Singles Tourney

Eleven Foresters competed in the Illinois Handball Association Women's Singles Tournament on their home courts over the weekend. Senior Sammie Zender captured the A Division title for the second year in a row.

After falling to former teammate Amalia DeSardi in the Open quarterfinals, Zender defeated another former Forester, Emma Swanson, 15-1, 15-3 in the A Division semifinals before posting a 21-10, 21-11 triumph over Robin Sterrett in the final.

Junior Amber Craghead claimed her second straight B Division championship by defeating Tanya Szatkowski 21-11, 21-17 in the final. Sophomore Christi Valicenti defeated classmate Katrine Buur 15-13, 15-1 to reach the semifinals before falling to Szatkowski. Senior Camila Quinteros, junior Caitlin Shetterley, and freshman Lisa Ledvora were also quarterfinalists after recording victories in the round of 16.

Buur and junior Amanda Flaxman made it throught the C Division semifinals and Buur took the final 11-1, 11-5.

The winner of the Open Division was former Forester Megan Mehilos, who won the event for the 12th year in a row.

The Foresters will compete in the Milwaukee Classic in West Allis, Wisconsin, next weekend.
