C.J. Laffey Wins IHA Contenders Tournament

Lake Forest College played host to the 2013 Illinois Handball Association Contenders Tournament over the weekend and Forester junior C.J. Laffey claimed the title by defeating former teammate Riley Kloss.

Laffey was the #4 seed in the event and knocked off second-seeded Kloss 21-15, 21-6 in the championship match. Kloss was also the runner-up as a Forester senior in 2011.

Laffey was joined in the semifinals by junior Eric Matiasek and freshman Anthony Collado. Matiasek got the by edging out the #3 seed 21-7, 13-21, 11-6 but fell to Kloss. Collado eliminated the top seed 21-13, 21-6 in the quarterfinals before falling to Laffey 21-13, 21-9 in the semifinals.

Senior Derrick Contreras was the only other Forester to post a victory in the Open Division. He prevailed in the first match before falling to Collado in the round of 16.

Lake Forest College will also be the site of next weekend's I.H.A. Women's Singles Tournament.
