Foresters Host Illinois Handball Association Contenders

The annual Illinois Handball Association Contenders Tournament was played at Lake Forest College over the weekend. Senior Pat Jarvis was one of three Foresters to reach the quarterfinal round.

Sophomore Sam Acosta was the lone Forester to advance to the semifinals. He won 21-6, 21-9 in the round of 16 and 21-8, 21-16 in the quarterfinals before falling 21-18, 21-14 to the event's top seed. Acosta was seeded fifth.

Jarvis and junior Riley Kloss were seeded sixth and seventh, respectively. Jarvis prevailed 21-14, 21-10 and Kloss 14-21, 21-15, 11-3 in the round of 16. Jarvis won his first quarterfinal set 21-18 but fell 21-13 in the second and 11-10 in the third. Kloss was defeated 21-10, 21-8 by the #2 seed and eventual champion.

Also falling to the eventual champ was Lake Forest junior Dan Sterrett, who won his opening round match in three sets before losing in the round of 16.

Sophomore Clark Creasey and freshman Sandy Ng defeated teammates in the first round of the consolation bracket before falling in the semifinals.

Lake Forest players will be back in action in three weekends at the Milwaukee Classic December 3-5.
