Quinn Schafer joined the Forester staff in 2017 as the team’s passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This season will be his sixth in coaching and fourth at the collegiate level.

Lake Forest’s pass efficiency rating of 150.8 a year ago was the highest mark in the Midwest Conference and ranked 38th in the nation. First Team All-MWC South selection Jagan Cleary and the other Forester quarterbacks completed more than 65 percent of their passes for 232.2 yards per game and tossed 21 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions. Cleary posted the two highest single-game completion percentages in school history and added two of the program’s top eight single-game pass effiency ratings. His season marks in both categories ranked second in team annals.

Schafer spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Coe College, where he directed the quarterbacks in 2015 and running backs the following year. The 2016 Kohawks set a program record with 11 victories and the team’s starting running back earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player and First Team All-American honors after leading the nation with 1,913 rushing yards. With Schafer as the quarterbacks coach in 2015, Coe averaged 296 passing yards per game and the signal-caller was named Honorable Mention All-IIAC after the season.

Schafer’s coaching experience also includes two years as the quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator at Chesterton High School in Indiana and a spring season working as an assistant quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at the University of St. Francis.

Prior to becoming a coach, Schafer was a four-year quarterback at Valparaiso University and graduated with a degree in sports management and business administration. He also helped lead Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to a state championship and was named the title game’s Most Valuable Player.

Schafer lives in nearby Lake Bluff with his wife Morgan.
