Junior wide receiver Ted Crane scored his first career touchdown but the Lake Forest College football team was defeated 70-14 by visiting North Central College, the seventh-ranked team in the country, on Saturday.

Crane took a short pass from junior quarterback Billy Degnan, sprinted up the left side of the field, and broke a tackle on his way into the end zone for a 28-yard score early in the fourth quarter.

The Foresters scored their other touchdown on an 8-yard reverse by sophomore wideout Chase Allen. The score tied the game at seven in the opening quarter.

The Cardinals regained the lead with a touchdown later in the first and pulled away in the second, reaching the end zone four times in the period. The visitors added three more scores in the third and one in the fourth.

Junior linebacker Johny Laponte and junior safety Taylor Freitas led the home team in tackles with eight apiece. Junior safety Blake Becker added seven stops and junior linebacker Jordan McInerney six, including a sack. Freshman defensive back Joey Jaquint recorded his first career interception late in the third quarter.

The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the year to 1-1 while Saturday's contest served as the season opener for North Central.

After a bye next weekend, Lake Forest will host Lawrence University on September 22 at 1:00 p.m.
