Lake Forest College football player Joey Valdivia was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance in the team's season-opening 37-27 victory at Beloit College on Saturday.

Valdivia, a senior running back, set career-highs with 36 carries and 295 rushing yards in the contest. He also reached the end zone on a pair of 1-yard run and a 20-yard reception to become the Foresters' all-time leader with 42 total touchdowns in his career. Valdivia's rushing yardage total for the game ranks third in school history and he now has four of the program's top nine entries in that category.

With 2,656 rushing yards in his career, Valdivia trails only Forester Hall of Famers Corey Honore (2,922) and John Klasen (3,389) in team history.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletics Department on Thursdays. Valdivia also earned the award twice last season and once in 2015.
