Lake Forest College's Sam Mulford and Brendan Power were included when the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced Wednesday the members of the 2017 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
A total of 1,089 players from 297 schools qualified for membership as the society celebrates its 11th year, setting a new record for the number of players honored in the history of the program, which began in 2007.
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include:
- Being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university;
- Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
- Meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Mulford, a senior h-back and double-major in sociology and anthropolgy as well as history, owns a 3.31 grade point average in his final semester as a student at the College. He played in 36 of 40 games over the last four seasons, rushing for 194 yards and a touchdown on 79 carries and adding 17 receptions for 163 yards.
Power, a senior defensive lineman and business major, currently carries a 3.33 grade points average. He is a two-time team captain and Second Team All-Midwest Conference selection and finished his career with 75 tackles, including 1.5 sacks and 6.0 tackles for loss, in 38 games. He also intercepted a pair of passes and returned both for touchdowns.
Lake Forest finished the year on a six-game winning streak and with an overall record of 8-2. The Foresters were third in the Midwest Conference standings with a league mark of 6-2.
