R.J. Pompey and Alex Pasiewicz were each named First Team All-Midwest Conference at two different positions and eight Foresters were listed among the league's best on Wednesday.
Pompey, a junior safety, was one of five First Team All-MWC defensive backs. He ranked 21st in the conference with a team-high 69 tackles and added a sack, a forced fumble, and a pair of interceptions on the season. Pompey was also listed on the First Team as a special teams player after blocking a league-high four kicks, serving as a blocker on punts, and making five tackles on kickoff returns in 2016.
Pasiewicz, a senior wide receiver and returner, was recognized on the First Team for his performance in both roles. He led the team with 53 receptions for 865 yards and finished with a league-high 11 touchdown receptions. He was also tied-for-first in the nation with three kickoff return touchdowns and two scores on punt returns. Pasiewicz became the first Forester to accomplish either feat and the only player in the country to do both this year. He also ranked second in the conference with 29.9 yards per kickoff return and 12.9 per punt return. Both averages were also among the top 20 in the country. His 1,929 all-purpose yards on the year rank second in MWC history.
Forester senior tailback Joey Valdivia was also named First Team All-MWC after earing Second Team All-MWC South honors a season ago. He led the league and ranks fourth in the nation with a team record 1,535 rushing yards and his conference record-tying 29 rushing touchdowns are six more than any other back in the country. Valdivia scored at least once in every game, ran for more than 100 yards in all but one contest, and surpassed the 200-yard mark three times. He also caught 20 passes for 211 yards and another score and Pasiewicz was the only player in the league with more all-purpose yards.
Blocking on the left side of the line for Valdivia, Pasiewicz, and the rest of the Lake Forest offense were junior tackle Andrew Johnson and senior guard Marty Shine and they were among eight offensive linemen to earn First Team All-MWC honors. Johnson was a Second Team All-MWC South honoree in 2015. The Foresters set program records and ranked second in the league with 440 yards per game and third with 38.6 points per contest. Lake Forest and league champion Monmouth College were the only teams to rank among the top five in the MWC in both rushing and passing yards.
The list of Second Team All-MWC honorees included senior Charlie Quinn, who played several positions on offense and finished second on the team with 265 yards rushing and 400 receiving. He scored five total touchdowns and completed his career with more than 3,000 all-purpose yards.
Senior defensive end Brendan Power and junior cornerback Chase Slagboom earned Second Team All-MWC honors on the defensive side of the ball. Power, one of the team captains, made 26 tackles on the year and had 2.5 tackles for loss. Slagboom finished with 34 tackles, two interceptions, and 10 pass breakups, despite missing the final two games of the season due to injury.
Lake Forest's 10 selections (eight players) were the second-most in the conference. The Foresters posted an 8-2 overall record and finished in third place in the league standings with a 6-2 mark in MWC play this season.
