The Lake Forest College football team racked up 555 yards of offense, the fourth-highest single-game total in program history, in a 42-21 victory at Carleton College on Saturday.
Forester sophomore quarterback Jagan Cleary completed 26 of 35 passes for 392 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the day. His yardage ranks second in program history and he already has 608 passing yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions this season.
Senior Charlie Quinn, who lines up in numerous positions on offense, set career-highs with nine receptions for 113 yards, including 61 on a first quarter touchdown. Senior wide receiver Alex Pasiewicz grabbed four passes for 102 yards and scored from 63 yards out late in the first half. Fellow senior wideout Willie McIntyre covered 95 yards while matching Quinn's nine catches but had his touchdown streak end at seven games. Senior running back Joey Valdivia added a pair of receptions for 72 yards.
Valdivia traveled another 146 yards on 24 carries, including three that reached the end zone. He now has 390 rushing yards, an 8.3-yards-per-carry average, and six total touchdowns in two games this year.
Sophomore linebacker Jordan McInerney and senior linebacker Joe Nitti tied for the team lead in tackles with nine apiece. They also combined for 4.0 tackles for loss while junior linebacker Pat McDonaugh finished with 2.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss. Junior cornerback Chase Slagboom had the unit's only turnover, an interception in the fourth quarter. Slagboom has picked off a pass in both games this season.
Lake Forest reached the end zone on five of seven first half possessions. Valdivia capped off the first drive of the game with a 1-yard touchdown run and Quinn caught a 61-yard pass from Cleary on the second. The second quarter featured touchdown runs of nine yards by Valdivia and one by Quinn and a 63-yard completion to Pasiewicz gave the visitors a 35-7 lead going into the locker room at halftime.
Carleton scored the only seven points of the third quarter and pulled to with 14 on another score early in the fourth. The teams combined for 67 yards on the next six possessions before the Foresters put the game out of reach on an 11-yard touchdown run by Valdivia with 1:20 to play.
Lake Forest is now 2-0 on the season while Carleton fell to 0-2.
The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference play next Saturday at Cornell College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
