Lake Forest College soccer and hockey player Michelle Greeneway was recently listed among the nominees for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Greeneway, an All-American in both sports, led the nation with 33 goals in hockey 2015-16 after tying for fourth in country with 30 scores in soccer in the fall. She finished her four years ranked tied-for-fourth in NCAA Division III history with 103 career goals in hockey and tied-for-13 with 104 scores in soccer and is the only woman in any division with at least 100 goals in both categories. An eight-time all-conference selection in the two sports combined, Greeneway has also been named Academic All-Midwest Conference and to the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's All-Academic Team each year she was eligible for the awards. As a senior she was named First Team Academic All-American in soccer and received the Laura Hurd Award, given to the NCAA Division III Player of the Year, in hockey.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.

At 517, this pool of school honorees marks the largest in the 26-year history of the award. Greeneway is one of 169 nominees from NCAA Division III institutions and one of six from the Midwest Conference. She is also one of 127 nominees who competed in more than one sport.

The NCAA encourages member schools to honor their top graduating female student-athletes each year by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award.

Next, conferences assess their member school nominees and select up to two conference nominees. The Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will then choose the top 30 honorees - 10 from each division.

From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three honorees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced at the annual award ceremony October 16 in Indianapolis.
