Lake Forest College Homecoming and Reunion Weekend was October 8-10. Among the weekend's many events was the annual Athletic Recognition Ceremony, which included the induction of Mei-Yun Gibson '05, Alissa Mildebrath Kingsley '05, and the 1975 Men's Soccer Team into the Forester Athletic Hall of Fame.
Gibson is the first All-American in Forester women’s soccer history, earning second team honors as a senior in 2004. She was also the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the team’s captain and Most Valuable Player that season, as well as a First Team All-MWC selection and Lake Forest’s MVP as a junior. During her four seasons, Gibson led the Foresters to a 48-19-1 overall record, a pair of league titles, and the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Kingsley (then Mildebrath) was the Midwest Conference South Division Player of the Year in softball as a freshman, a First Team All-American as a sophomore, and an All-MWC South and All-Region selection four times each. She graduated in 2005 as the program’s career leader in at-bats, runs, hits, home runs, and total bases and helped lead the team to four league championships and a national runner-up finish. She also played in 95 of 99 basketball games and the team was 71-28 with a conference title during her four years.
The 1975 Forester men’s soccer team was the first in any sport at the College to qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament. The team’s 11-0 record entering the national playoffs included victories in each of its four Midwest Collegiate Athletic Conference contests as well as a 7-1 rout of Cornell College and a 5-1 triumph over Knox College in the MCAC Tournament. Despite falling 2-1 in overtime to MacMurray College in the NCAA Tourney, the Foresters outscored opponents 54-10 over the course of the entire season.
The Homecoming Weekend festivities also included a gathering of Forester tennis alumni as well as the presentation of the Forester Impact Award to Spike Gummere. The honorees were also featured in the annual Homecoming Parade.
