Lake Forest College Homecoming and Reunion Weekend is coming up September 18-20. Among the weekend's many events is the annual Athletic Recognition Ceremony, which will include the induction of Leigh Anne Furgerson Ihnken '04, Corey Honore '98, Brent Keeley '81, and Megan Mehilos Dorneker '04 into the Forester Athletic Hall of Fame.
Furgerson is the Forester softball team’s record-holder with 51 career victories and each of her four single-season win totals rank among the top 10 in program history. She is also second in team annals with a 1.42 career earned run average, .689 winning percentage, 13 shutouts, 256 strikeouts, and just 0.77 walks per seven innings. Furgerson was named All-MWC South, All Region, and Academic All-MWC three times each, team captain twice, and the Foresters' MVP as a senior, when she was also selected as the MWC South Co-Player of the Year. She helped lead Lake Forest to a 105-55-1 record in four seasons and was part of the 2002 team that reached the NCAA Division III championship game. (complete bio)
In more than 120 seasons, no Forester has scored more rushing touchdowns in a game (6), season (17), or career (31) than Corey Honore. He also holds the program’s single-season rushing yardage record with 1,455 as a junior in 1996 and ranks second in team annals with 2,922 career rushing yards. Honore was named All-Midwest Conference three times and the league’s Offensive Most Valuable Player as a junior. He was also Lake Forest’s MVP that season and a captain as a senior. (complete bio)
Keeley ranks second in Forester men’s hockey history with 93 career goals and third with 91 assists and 184 points. After playing on Lake Forest’s NCAA Division II runner-up team as a freshman, he tied a school record that still stands with 32 goals the next year. Keeley led the squad in goals and points again as a junior and was second in both categories as a senior. The Foresters were 65-35-0 during his four-year career. (complete bio)
Mehilos continues to be the only player – man or woman – to claim United States Handball Association championships in both Open Singles and Open Doubles play in all four years of eligibility. She accomplished the feat despite playing with four different doubles partners. Lake Forest also captured the women’s team title in each of her four seasons and she was voted the squad’s Most Valuable Player four times and a captain as a senior in 2003-04. Mehilos continues to play professionally and has been ranked as high as #1 in the world. (complete bio)
The ceremony will also include the honoring of Forester men's basketball alumni as well as the presentation of the first Forester Impact Award to Karen Hermann. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the honorees will also be featured in the annual Homecoming Parade at noon.
