Mike Gilboe has been the Foresters' Head Athletic Trainer since the fall of 2001. Gilboe came to Lake Forest College after a short stint with Condell Medical Center, working with their out-patient therapy department and was part-time with Lake Forest College. Prior to his time there, he was the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Arkansas State University for the Men's Basketball program from 1998-2000.  

Gilboe attended Arkansas State University from 1992-1996 receiving his undergraduate degree in Physical Education-Athletic Training/Exercise Science. He then went on to attend Illinois State University, where he served at a graduate assistant, while receiving his master's degree in Physical Education in 1998.  

Gilboe is certified by the NATABOC and is a licensed Athletic Trainer in the state of Illinois and a American Red Cross Instructor.  He is a member of the National, Great Lakes and Illnois Athletic Trainers Association. He is also a adjunct professor for Lake Forest College

Gilboe is married to the former Kimberly Bradley, who is a retired certified athletic trainer and currently works as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. The couple has two sons, Aiden and Blake. A native of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Gilboe enjoys spending time with family camping and playing golf.


Lewis Secor
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Lewis went to University of Illinois at Chicago and received his degree in Kinesiology in 2019. It was at UIC where he found a passion for athletic training after experiencing an internship in their athletic department. From there, Lewis went to Aurora University and received his Masters degree in athletic training in 2022. He has experience working with football, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse.

Lewis enjoys his time playing hockey, golfing, fishing, driving his Camaro, and spending time with his girlfriend, Dianna.

Stephanie Ulshafer
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Assistant Athletic Trainer Stephanie Ulshafer joined the Forester athletic training staff in 2022 through Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. She works primarily with women's soccer, women's ice hockey, and men's lacrosse. 

Ulshafer served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of South Carolina and graduated with a master's in Advanced Athletic Training in 2022. Ulshafer earned her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from the University of Pittsburgh in 2020 where she completed a full season internship with the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as clinical rotations with Pitt Men's Soccer and UPMC Sports Medicine.

Ulshafer is a native of Midlothian, Virginia. She enjoys playing guitar, spending time with her dog Alana, and watching football, hockey, and Formula 1.


Sammy Fluck
Assistant Athletic Trainer

Sammy Fluck enters her second season as an Athletic Trainer at Lake Forest College covering volleyball, women’s basketball, softball, track & cross country, and rehabilitation.

Throughout the summer, she is the Head Athletic Trainer for the Schaumburg Boomers in Schaumburg, IL. Her previous experience includes four seasons at Evangel University providing care to the baseball, soccer and tennis teams primarily as one of their Athletic Trainers in Missouri where she obtained her Masters in Athletic Training with an emphasis in leadership and rehabilitation at Missouri State.

Sammy received her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, South Dakota and is a current member of the National Athletic Training Association (NATA), and holds her BOC, instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilizations (IASTM), and Rock Tape certifications.  She has advanced training as a movement specialist including Functional Movement Systems (FMS), Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) and Vestibular/Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS) Assessment.

Sammy currently serves as an Athletic Trainer for the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute.   She grew up in Becker, MN as a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, loves to go on long hikes, and loves cozy hometown coffee shops for her morning pick me up.


Dr. Roger Chams, Head Team Physician (Website)

Dr. Chams was fellowship trained at the prestigious Southern California Orthopedic Institute where he received specialized training in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery of complex knee and shoulder issues and sports injuries. After his fellowship, he brought back many procedures that had not previously been performed in the area. Dr Chams has been in practice with the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute for over 15 years. His Sports Medicine experience includes treating thousands of Professional, NCAA, Amateur athletes, as well as work related injuries. He has been the team physician for Lake Forest College as well as multiple High School teams and athletic clubs, for 15 years. He has been chosen as a team physician for the USA Soccer Federation Men and Women National Teams.

Dr. Chams has presented at national meetings, published multiple journal articles, instructional videos, and has authored a text book chapter on Advanced Shoulder Arthroscopy . He continues to be active as a member and instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) , and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), teaching advanced knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgical technique courses for other Orthopedic surgeons. He is an instructor for the Residents / Fellows Advanced Surgical Arthroscopic Shoulder/ Knee Course at the Academy Learning Center and continues to routinely teach continued medical education courses for physicians, physical therapists, and athletic trainers.

Dr. Chams has been awarded to the “Top Tier MD”, “Chicago’s Top Doctor”, American Registry “Patient’s Choice”. He has been selected to “America’s Top Orthopedists “by the Consumer Research Counsel of America for the last 12 years.


Dr. Anthony Savino, Team Physician (Website)

Dr. Anthony Savino is a board-certified neurologist with fellowship training in sports neurology. In addition to the treatment of all adult neurological disorders, he specializes in the management of concussion, neurological disorders including headache, sleep or mood problems and maintenance of long-term brain health in athletes of any age.

Dr. Savino’s interests include management of acute concussion, autonomic dysfunction in concussion, treatment of post-concussion syndrome, and post-concussion headache. During his fellowship he collaborated on a long-term research study of head trauma in youth and high school football players. This study examined the potential sequelae of repetitive hits to the head over time through measurements of head impacts by helmet sensors and extensive brain function tests before and after each football season.

He completed his residency in Neurology at Boston University Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident during his final year of training. Dr. Savino obtained his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder.


Dr. Angelo Savino, Team Physician (Website)

Dr. Angelo Savino is a Non-operative Sports Medicine Physician and serves as the lead physician at IBJI’s OrthoAccess immediate care clinic in Libertyville. His interests include Non-Operative Orthopedic Care, Sports Injuries, Ultrasound Diagnostic Imaging, Ultrasound Guided Injections, PRP injections.

He has extensive experience acting as team physician for professional, collegiate and high school teams.

Dr. Savino’s focus is treating patients with athletic interests – whether they be professional athletes or weekend warriors. His caring approach focuses on garnering relationships and caring for the patient. The Patient-Physician relationship is most important. Once this is established, the care will fall into place. In the end his goal is to improve every patients health to prolong their active lifestyle. He believes the longer you remain active, the longer you will lead a happier life.
