Doug Moorad grew up in Morton Grove , Illinois , and attended Maine
East High School , where he lettered in three sports and
participated in student government.
Moorad enrolled at Lake Forest College in the fall of 1973 and
served as the soccer team's starting goalkeeper for four years.
After a difficult freshman season during which the team posted a
0-9-3 record, he helped lead the Foresters to a 25-6-1 mark and
nine shutouts over the next three years. Moorad earned All-Midwest
Collegiate Athletic Conference honors and helped lead Lake Forest
to at least a share of the league title in each of those three
seasons. In addition, he was named All-State by both the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America and the Illinois Sports
Information Directors following his junior and senior years. His
best season came in 1975 when he allowed just eight goals in 12
games and Lake Forest advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first
time in team history. His teammates chose him as one of their
captains before his senior season and its Most Valuable Player
after it was over. Moorad also lettered four years as a catcher on
the baseball team and was a captain his senior season.
In addition to playing two sports , Moorad was also a member of the
student newspaper staff as a freshman, a contributor to Silenus,
the College's literary magazine, as a sophomore, and a resident
assistant his junior year. He majored in English and graduated in
the spring of 1977.
At the time of his induction Moorad was a senior director of
business development at United Parcel Service and had worked for
the company for 29 years.
He lists his wife Judy, sons Adam and Will, and daughter Sarah as
his greatest lifetime achievements
