Stephanie Metzger grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and attended Lane Tech High School. She was a three-year letter winner and city champion in volleyball and was named her team’s captain and most valuable player as a junior and senior.

Metzger entered Lake Forest College in the fall of 2000 and helped lead the volleyball team to three Midwest Conference championships and NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in the next four years. She captained the team as a junior and senior and was named First Team All-MWC and the Foresters’ most valuable player after both of those seasons. As a senior she set a program record with 599 digs and her 408 kills that season were the third-highest total in school history. She also set a school record for digs in a match with 41 against Monmouth College. Metzger finished her career ranked second in team history with 1,345 digs, third with 1,076 kills, and seventh with 123 aces. She was just the second Forester to surpass the 1,000 mark in both kills and digs. Lake Forest posted an 85-45 overall record and a 23-8 mark in conference play during Metzger’s career. At the time of her induction, that victory total was still the highest of any four-year span in program history.

Successful in the classroom as well, Metzger was a two-time Academic All-MWC honoree. While on campus the double major in communication and psychology was a member of the Gamma Phi Omega sorority and served as a resident assistant.

Metzger went on to a career in information technology management.
