Growing up in Pontiac, Michigan, Bill attended Pontiac High
School. He entered Lake Forest College in 1939 and by his
junior year, despite having no previous experience, earned a
starting position as a lineman on the football team. In a
game versus Wabash College in his final season, he recovered three
fumbles, preserving a 0-0 tie.
Student council president his senior year, Bill was also a member of Phi Pi Epsilon, serving one year as president, and was elected to Iron Key. He was business manager for the Forester, a member of both the L.F. Club and Economics Club and was chosen for Who's Who.
After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in economics, Bill entered the U.S. Army and served as an infantry officer in the Pacific theater. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he enrolled at the University of Chicago and received an M.B.A.
He spent most of his 29- year business career in production management with Container Corporation of America. A class agent for many years, Bill served as Reunion chairman and president of the Lake Forest College Alumni Association (1969-71). The College honored his dedication with its Distinguished Service Citation in 1971.
Bill also served his community by acting as president of the Parent Teacher Association, president of the Elmhurst library, president of the Graham Association for Disabilities and an Elder of the Elmhurst Presbyterian Church.
